Our Mission

BENEATH THE SURFACE

Beneath the Surface is a multimedia project that features the narratives of students of color and international students at Emerson College. Through this project, we hope to promote and continue an honest dialogue about race on Emerson’s campus. 

​

In documenting these personal narratives, we hope to provide a platform for marginalized voices to be heard. We hope to shine a light on the daily impacts of micro-aggressions, anxiety, and outward racism that students experience every day. We hope that by viewing this project, people will be open to have productive conversation about race, question their biases, learn to be conscious of their daily actions and most importantly respect all people no matter their background.

This project hopes to not only to educate ALL faculty, staff and students but also for students of color to know they are not alone.

 

We hope that this project will be used as a resource long after we have left Emerson and that positive conversations about race and diversity will continue and result in real change.
